Ableton Live, an Ulrich Schnauss master class

You can see a 40 minute session in which Ulrich shows off his computer kit, faderfoxes, mac etc. and shows how to use ableton to imrovise electronic music from arrays of clips in ableton live. So if by some amazing coincidence the man who stood next to me at the Truck festival and kept shouting to his mate about how “he’s not even doing anything” is reading, go and have a watch. Oh it sounds pretty wonderful too, I shall be sitting down with my daughter later to watch. She is a huge fan and couldn’t go to see him when I supported him because she’s too young (8). She finally got to see him and meet him at Truck and I have a picture of her with him , Ulrich looking a little non-plussed but Bel with the widest smile you ever saw; my favourite picture ever she looks so happyy. The session also includes the usual embarrassed interview in the middle in which Ulrich says that living near the sea brings a desire for escape and a sense of melancholy; exactly, here at winterlight music the importance of the sea is never in doubt. He doesn’t mention coffee though…

Hey, does anyone know anything about the keyboard he’s using? I can’t tell if its a midi controller or an actual synth.

i believe it is a midi keyboard. I can tell you that having looked a few times it is being used to play an FM8 plugin.
