Hope Dies Last – album on n5md

My first album for the very wonderful n5md, hope dies last,  is released tomorrow worldwide in cd and digital formats from just about everywhere you can imagine but buy direct from n5md mail order and you can get other goodies like a t shirt, postcard and mp3 links. The album features contributions from part-time member Jamie and Mike Cadoo as well as some vocals from Becca Riedtmann. The front cover photo of a beautiful vintage radio is courtesy of Jeni Kayoa. If you still need convincing you can listen to some samples at the n5md site

A Strangely Isolated Place Guest Mix

I have just finished a mix of some tunes to share a long coach journey with, perfect for staring out of a window as the world passes by. I wrote a few words about the thoughts behind the mix for the blog

“When I was younger I used to go on long coach journeys just to escape. I made up C90 mixtapes and then bought a return ticket for somewhere far away. I would travel through the day and night watching the world pass by me in a blur and listen to my Walkman and disappear somewhere inside myself to a place I wanted to be. It was if there wasn’t any real world just a backdrop to the music. Nowadays I make my own music to do the same thing. This mix is an attempt to recreate the feel of those tapes and those journeys.”

[live review] port-royal, kontakte, winterlight @ wilmington arms, london Concert date: October 29, 2010 Last Friday saw an evening of extremely satisfying electronic shoegaze at the Wilmington Arms in Clerkenwell, courtesy of Italian dreamscapers port-royal (pictured above), London-based Kontakte and Winterlight, who hail from Cornwall. The venue's intimate club setting, with semi-improvised audiovisual projection system (a sheet hung up at the back), provided a fitting context for the flowing, saturated, minor-key ho … Read More

live at club ac30 with port-royal and kontakte

Last friday I played a great gig in london with my great friends port-royal and kontakte. Not only did I play a thirty minute winterlight set but i was lucky enough to join port-royal for their set too. I will write a full blog about it soon but in the meantime here are some videos from the night.

two become one

One of the things that follows from my signing to n5md is that for the time being I will be putting the lightsway project on hold.

Lightsway came about because of my desire to release a record on my friend Tarl’s new label, distant noise. My label at the time wanted exclusivity over the winterlight name and so in order to release something I had to use a differnt name. Many of the tracks on the lightsway album were demos for what might have become winterlight tracks and indeed a few are getting overhauls at the moment and may feature on my forthcoming album in a rather more polished format. Consequently, you can see how lightsway was always a banner of convenience to me and so now I have a label which is more flexible with releases it is not something I need.

I have not ruled out lightsway coming back in some form in the future but for the time being lightsway and winterlight will merge under the winterlight name.

news catch up 2 – the n5md one

I am very pleased to report that future releases will be with n5md. I love this label and have enormous respect for label boss Mike Cadoo both as a musician and as the driving force behind such a great label. i am very happy to be on the same label as my good friends aerosol and port-royal.
